Dane Bulder

Skipper 'MV Tunamoon'

What energises you at work?
The fact that it doesn’t feel like work, more like going out to sea to do something that I enjoy , with the added bonus of the remarkable piece that we collect to show to the world.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your job?
Peoples first impression are that we are taking from a reef that’s dying already. From my experience in the industry over a spread out couple years, the reef is improving and with Monsoons spawning and aquaculture ventures I believe the industry will be more sustainable than ever.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
If we aren’t out at sea you’ll find me doing one of three activities.
4wding&camping, motorbike riding, crabbing & fishing.

Favourite coral and why?
It’s hard to have a dedicated favourite but I’d have to go with the infamous Scoly.  There’s  always a chance you can collect a unique specimen that you haven’t seen before.

What do you love about the job?
The unique rare things we get to see that wouldn’t be possible in any other industry.
