Christmas Tree Worm Work (Cyphastrea)

A tube building burrowing polychaeta worm lives in coral and/or coral boulders. Each worm has 2 or more brightly coloured crowns protruding at the opening of its tube, radiating from the worm?s central spine. Resembling Christmas trees. They are usually densely packed in a rock commonly found in Montipora, Porites or Cyphastrea encrusted rocks. The small worms are sensitive to movement and light. When disturbed they rapidly retract into their calcium carbonate tube within the coral for protection. A fun addition for an aquarium.
